2025 Sockeye Dance Film

A public example from the continuing Sockeye collaboration with The Village Dance Academy. The annual films keep detailed performer and choreographer credits with their video descriptions and end-credit source files; this KFS page keeps the public copy focused on production, camera, lighting, editing and delivery.

Brief

What the production needed.

Create a polished annual film for Sockeye, The Village Dance Academy's elite graduating ensemble, that could honour the dancers' skill while giving the work a cinematic life beyond the stage.

Pressure

Where the day could break.

The pieces needed to preserve choreography, formation and ensemble precision while adding screen language: dramatic light, shadow, camera movement, rhythm and location changes that would amplify the dancers rather than distract from them.

Field Plan

Turning the plan into a working set.

KFS and James built the films around controlled visual ideas for each year. The 2023 film opens with hand movement, shadows and backlight before widening into the full dance world; later films push colour, haze, camera movement and edit rhythm while keeping the ensemble readable.

Handoff

What left the production.

The Sockeye films became a public-facing record of the ensemble's graduating years and a proof point for performance work where lighting, camera, music and editing are shaped as part of the choreography.
