Northern FanCon and a KFS Table in Prince George
Northern FanCon was part fan convention, part market test: a KFS table in Prince George, a lot of conversations, and a reminder that film relationships are built by showing up in the room.
A fan convention became practical outreach.
Northern FanCon in Prince George gave KFS a different kind of room from a producer conference. The table was small, direct and a little scrappy: production examples, contact material, the Kelowna pitch and enough visual material for people to understand that KFS was trying to build something real in the Interior.
Norm Coyne's Prince George and Barker Street Cinema orbit made the trip especially relevant. FanCon had access to actors, genre fans, filmmakers and local film people, which made it a good place to test how the KFS story landed outside the Okanagan.
The conversations were the value.
The weekend created conversations with actors, filmmakers, acting coaches and producers, including Michael Cudlitz, Michael Coleman and the Story Institute orbit, James Douglas, Emily Swallow, Kate Green, Summer Glau and Lou Diamond Phillips. Some were quick convention conversations. Others pointed toward future training, acting, development or production-service possibilities.
The table also produced a practical response: signups, business cards taken, and enough repeated questions to show that people understood the basic opportunity. The takeaway was not that a convention table closes a production. It was that a regional company needs repeated, human touchpoints before the serious calls happen.
Prince George helped define the KFS outreach role.
Looking back, FanCon showed that KFS had to show up in neighbouring film communities instead of waiting for work to arrive in Kelowna fully formed.
That lesson still fits the modern KFS position. Whether the company is pitching service production, development support, gear access or a local partner role, the work starts by making the Okanagan visible in rooms where producers, actors and creators are already gathering.
