The Original KFS Studio Closed, but the Work Continues

The original stage mattered.

Kelowna Film Studios opened its doors on September 6, 2022. Two years later, the original studio space closed. That was hard to write, and harder to live through, because the room represented a belief that Kelowna could support more serious film and media work.

We are still proud that we executed it. The space hosted films, music videos, photoshoots, meetings, community events and even yoga. Movie stars came through the building, local crews worked inside it, and the studio appears in a number of projects that will keep carrying a piece of that room forward.

Closing the doors did not close the idea.

Running the studio taught KFS what a physical production base can do, and what a regional market still needs around it: a stronger pipeline of productions, reliable crew pathways, equipment access, municipal support, outside producers, and enough local work to make the economics sustainable.

The closing of the doors was real. It changed the shape of the company. It did not change the reason the company existed.

The next version is still about local work.

The goal was never only to rent a room. The goal was, and still is, to help bring productions to the Okanagan so people in the film industry can support their families, build stable careers and own homes in the place they live.

KFS will keep working with producers, crews, vendors, locations, government contacts and industry groups to make this region easier to choose and easier to trust.

Thank you to everyone who stepped into the studio, worked in it, filmed in it, trained in it, visited it or believed in it. We are sad to close that chapter, grateful it happened, and ready to see what we get up to next.
